A History

The Eleanor Chardonnay honours the matriarch of the Finlayson family who, with her husband Maurice, owned Hartenberg Estate (then "Montagne") from 1948 to 1977. Strong and resolute in character, yet always sophisticated and poised, who better personifies our new super premium Chardonnay?

The Eleanor Chardonnay Process
This highly limited release represents the best two (of five) Chardonnay clones on Hartenberg, planted 219 metres above sea level in deep red clay (Tukulu) loam soils on the estate's West-facing slope.

Selected for their consistent quality and flavour, the two chosen clones - one Burgundian and the other Californian - have consistently produced the best Chardonnays for Hartenberg. The good stuff.

Hand-picked in the early morning so as to capture the more delicate flavours lost in the heat of the day, the grapes of each clone were vinified separately before blending.
