Stork's Flight Spring 2018

Stork's Flight Spring 2018

Neal Martin, renowned international wine journalist, waxed lyrical about the Cape Winelands in his recent 2018 South African Report:  “The truth is that Cape is one of the most mind-bogglingly beautiful landscapes you will ever visit, where jagged mountains soar up to heavens and cascade into oceans; fynbos-covered hillsides are home to startling flora and fauna . . . . The Cape is a visceral, unforgettable experience. Every single person whose feet have touched South African soil returns with shattered preconceptions and a desire to return as soon as possible.”

We truly have an amazing country! Which begs the question: with increased pressure on dispensable income for South Africans, is now not the time to be a tourist in our own country, to re-discover the treasures in our own neighbourhoods and our own backyards?

Eat Good; Feel Good!

Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city. Join us for our famous picnics or delicious summerly courtyard lunches and soothe your soul! We guarantee the rejuvenating sights and sounds of birdlife and wind rustling through age-old trees as part of your experience!

We are now open 7 days a week for wine tasting, and 6 days a week (Tuesday to Sunday) for our picnics and lunches.

In celebration of summer freshness, we have introduced Steak Tagliata (alongside the ever-popular Hartenburger) to our summer Courtyard Menu – perfectly seared Rib-eye steak with rocket, parmesan and succulent cherry tomatoes.

Feel like something more down to earth? Be beguiled by our delicious picnics at R250,00 per person, where you will be spoiled, served and well-looked after by our waiters.  It’s simply a matter of booking your picnic, showing up, sitting down, and revelling in the delicious treasures from our picnic basket!

Our picnics and courtyard lunches are currently served between 12h00 and 15h00. Please book your choice of lunch enjoyment with us to ensure a seamless experience, and note that we are closed on Christmas Day and 1 January 2019.

Not everything that Glitters is Gold ..

.. sometimes, it is also green, like our Winelands; or purple, like our blood; or ruby-red like our Merlot!

In the 2018 Tim Atkin South Africa Special Report, Carl’s magical wand at wine was confirmed by Hartenberg Estate being classified as Cape First Growth – one of only 25 Cape wine farms to achieve this incredible status. Furthermore, referring to the Hartenberg Estate Merlot (93 Points),  Tim Atkin contemplated Carl’s extraordinary talents superbly when he mused,  “Is there any red wine style that Carl Schultz cannot turn his hand to?”

We are especially proud of The Stork’s 96 Points, The Eleanor’s 95 Points and Gravel Hill Shiraz  also receiving 95 points in the Tim Atkin report.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hartenberg Estate this summer, and we hope to become part of your most precious memories.
Let us celebrate being proudly South African this season!  Let us revel in our dynamic nation, the quality of life we enjoy in this beautiful country, along with the undeniable quality of our wines, our restaurants and our tourism offering.  Let’s savour our breath-taking Winelands scenery -  oceans, mountains and vineyards.

Everything taken into account, it is then no wonder that Neal Martin so eloquently surmises that “no country, no wine region has been as dynamic, progressive or indeed, as exciting, as South Africa. It is almost unrecognisable compared to a decade ago.”

As always, warm wishes in wine
